Best of the Dresses!! Bloomfield Vintage Show!! Part Deux

There were so many lovely things. I would have tried every single item on, spent the rest of my life trying on these lovely gorgeous clothes that lived full amazing lives before I had the luck to come across them and run my hand over their beautiful fabrics.... So here are the best...

JC in this AMAZING Dolman Sleeve/Cocoon Dress. So 1960s Liz Taylor, “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together.”
On photo the gorgeous shape of the gown doesn't really read. So I drew a Cartoon JC to show the shape. it's very exaggerated and geometric and the detail on the sleeves is breathtaking....

I mean look at that. Effin Faceted Emerald Green Crystal. I cry tears of Joy.

6 foot of sunshine in this Mary Tyler Moore shift with Peter Pan-ish collar and bow. I feel like I could have worked with Mary at the TV station and hilarious antics would have ensued. It's this great appliqued pattern, I just love it.

The bow and collar detail. ALSO showing off my MOST AMAZING BIRTHDAY PREZZIE of these beautiful vintage earrings from my lovely sister-for-life TK.

Rows and Rows of bakelite bangles. I have dreams about this. Wouldn't it be awesome to stack them from wrist to shoulder? Ahhhh, a girl can dream.

Terrifying mannequin head for my lovers of crazy doll imagery, of which i know many. :-)

A toothless man put this coat on me, after asking me to remove my *other coat* which was my DRESS. and then he said, "This is not going to fit you." To which I said, "I WILL MAKE THIS WORK". and I did. seriously, toothless man, do not underestimate me. Yeah my shoulder blades are touching, but that's good posture, right?

Amaze-a-balls Lamp that I want so bad. I think I'm going to try to make something like this. #lovesgoldspraypaint

One person in our party did get a vintage chanel dress. This one was gorgeous, but a drop waist, which is not my fav silhouette. but i wanted it anyways.. hahahha.

A collection of hats for which i would give any of my non-essential organs for. All of them so rad.

"I hid in this office closet because *The Birds* had breached the front door and were attacking everyone. I hope they won't find me here!" Very Hitchcockian Wiggle/ Shift.

Again the photo is not doing it justice. This silky beautiful dress has individual faceted rhinestones at every intersection of the plaid, which are set with PRONGS LIKE JEWELRY!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!?? it is a piece of art.

This dress, so cool, but made for a 5 foot tall woman. the bust pleating is pretty much hitting at my collarbone, i tried to lift the girls up there by anatomy prevented. It's so incredibly cute, i would wear this all the time. But it was not intended for me. :-(

THIS WAS MY FAVVVVVVVORITE OF THE NIGHT. I felt like Uhura or some fabulous 1960s Alien chick that Captain Kirk would date. It had these D rings towards the top on that center stripe of glittery silver, no idea what that is for. A leash? Tools? No idea. I looooove this. I should have bought it, but I own SO MANY 1960s poly dresses of the same A-line shape. it's like Homer Simpson and his white short-sleeve shirts. Sometimes you just know you have enough. :-(

Best of the Best Bloomfield Vintage Show Part 1

We were invited to the Wonderful, Fabulous Bloomfield Vintage Jewelry & Apparel Show on Saturday and SERIOUSLY ABSOLUTELY it was the best thing I have ever attended. If there is a Heaven, and if I end up going there... It will be this. Wall to Wall Vintage Clothing, Hats, Jewelry, Everything, an amazing array of gorgeous items. It was like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for me!
Super-Gorgeous 40s headband/hat, oh yeah, and REALLY good lighting. Thanks Sun.

1960s/1970s FABULOUS PILL POPPING Housewife, Valley of the Dolls Housedress/Robe. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

Amazing Pucci-Print Pallazo JUMPSUIT with sequin trim. I was dying over this. I wanted it to fit me so so badly. But it was clearly made for a 5 foot tall woman. So I said, "whatever, I have to try to make this work". Arched my back, through the shoulders on and posed for the picture. *Like a Bowwsss*

Isn't this SO GORGEOUS!? Lovely black and silver brocade that came with these bizarre confusing pants that we just couldn't figure out, they had a slinky white waist to thigh material, and then the same brocade from the knee down. So we didn't try them. I think this looks great all it's own.

Such a Joan Holloway-Harris dress. but I just wasn't loving it. the scallopped neckline did not make me happy. the material was a gorgeous mint and gold leopard print brocade, but it just wasn't a SHOWSTOPPER.

1970s Knit two piece looks like it was made and designed for JC. Isn't she just a beauty??

AWESOME 1970s Red and Gold Brocade dress. On an "average height" woman, this would be full length. and the shoulders were not wide enough, so it didn't feel very good. But I LOVED THE MATERIAL!! omg. I could imagine hosting parties like Julianne Moore in "The Single Man" in this.

How great is this hat? 1940s? so cool. Like three different colored giant marshmallows.

This was so beautiful. a lovely velvet rosettes and a veil. So beautiful. In the photograph you can't see the delicate detail, :-(

How awesome are these shoes!!?? And these would ONLY fit Lovely Graci. The Haute Couture Model. Not us. :-(

Look at all this jewelry. I can imagine filling a bathtub with this stuff and just rolling around in this. Every SINGLE PIECE is so beautiful.

GET ON MY NECK!! I do not own a strapless dress, but if i bought this necklace i would buy one to wear with it "tout de suite" !! Can you say Liz Taylor in CLEOPATRA!!!

Check out JC in this 40s flower hat. I just love this. it's like she's a Starlet Ingenue waiting for her big break on the hollywood scene.

Case after case of gorgeous jewelry. I just can't stand it. It makes me want to SLAP EVERYONE!!

Wanted to buy this so badly. but it didn't fit on my giant head. UNLESS..... I just pin it on "Fascinator Style"!!!! I SHALL!!

Nails - DIY Asphalt

I may have gravely injured myself tonight while running, so i thought rather than do all the crazy stuff i usually do after the kids go to bed, i'll do nails. My "Rothko" mani was chipping anyways. A manicure lasts about 1-2 days for me with regular paint. I'm always painting, in the water, washing stuff, giving kids baths, etc. So it never lasts. I couldn't decide what color I wanted so i made one...

I wanted something dark. But sometimes a *straight up* Black looks rather harsh on my Lily-White hands, not that that is a bad thing, but not quite what i was looking for today. So i decided to temper the intensity of the black and try to make a deep gray shade. A contact case removed from the trash was perfect for a tiny welled palette, so i went ahead and mixed OPI "Mourning Glory" (a deep shiny black) with Zoya's "Bevin" when i thought the shade was perfect i painted it on. Seriously painting your nails out of this container was so wonderful. It reminded me of oil-painting for fine art purposes, mixing your shades and tones and sweeping them onto your brush to apply to your canvas (my nails)

The result was this: A Perfect Shade of Deep Deep Shiny Gray.
I'm so happy with it, i may never take ANY polish color for face value again. It's like having the whole kaleidoscope of tints at the tips of your fingers, literally.
Mix away, My Lovelies.

Sept 28 - Vanessa - Date Night - Buenas Noches

I spent all day in crappy jeans and T shirt...

AHHHH THANK GOD FOR SOME HEELS AND VINTAGE. It's like I can breathe again, it's like my heart has come back to life. I feel so much better.
I did the skirt over dress thing again, which i really love to do. Today DD was saying, "I couldn't play dress-up today because I already had a dress on."
I said, "Oh no honey, you can wear a dress over a dress, skirts over a dress, four skirts at a time, it's all good, i've done it all. There are no rules in fashion." Love her.

Most Ridic aka The Best Shoes of All Time

I'm 6 foot tall and I love a good heel. Put me in some platforms and I'm so comfy I can run a marathon or run some fierce man-to-man D, it does not hinder me at all. And I esp love a bright color, a crazy print, and of course the highest heel possible. I think I may have found it here...

Called the "High Chair Heel". LOL. To me this looks like having a Old Granny Walker attached to each foot. Or maybe there is some industrial chic thing going on that is beyond me. I do question why this ladies calf muscles no not appear tensed at all? Edema? Maybe she has worn these since birth? Are they a health aide? Love the acrylic on her toe, I hope that is a functional apparatus as well. hahha.

Now this is just a great idea for Tarantula Owners, YOU NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR PET BEHIND! I wonder if it would work for fish? they would get a lovely view of the world all day and be close to your heart via the bottoms of your feet.

Oh Lord i have always loved the McQueen Armadillo Shoe. I even like armadillo's as animals, so awesome. I wonder about the construction of the shoe, how your foot sits in it. this is interesting to me. I think it's sculpturally rather beautiful, and as it appears to be an extension of your alien-leg it is flattering as well. I really want to give a pair of these a spin.

Being a Motor City Girl I couldn't resist this Prada pair. It reminds me of Athens Coney Island and the Dream Cruise. It's so unapologetically 50s and gorgeous.

The Dino Shoe!! Thanks Nicole!! My kids have this actual same dinosaur toy. Only one, sad to say. But maybe I could make one heel with a T.Rex and the other with a Brontosaurus and they could have fights to the death while I salsa dance. hahahha.

Sept 27 - Vanessa

I like these pants.

I think I bought them in 1998? I still like the 90s raver/wide leg thing, it's so comfy and kind of fluid, which i'm all about.

Nail Art and Mark Rothko *let's get deep*

 My Nails.

Mark Rothko's "Untitled" 1953.

I received compliments from two different 4 year olds on my nails today, neither of them my daughter, although she liked them too. They are obviously getting it. Rothko also thought children had a better mind for art, describing and asserting themselves in a manner that is more true to heart. I agree.

I think my main modus operandi for dressing and life is very Rothko-esque. He used these rectangles of color to wrap the viewer in an experience, for the person to feel the vibrations of the colors against each other. There is something clearly electric in visually looking at two striking hues touching back to back, like it lights up sensory centers in your mind, lighting up mine to feel joy and energy.

The nail colors came from an AMAZING set that I was gifted from my lovely laydeez Jeneh and Jennifer. A set called Skullicious by OPI...
The colors are gorgeous, I instantly thought of what i would do with them, and then I thought of that Rothko and knew that would be my first project. I hope he's proud of me. :-)

Sept 26 - Vanessa & Spätz

Is it going to be cold today? No one knows.... Jerry Hodak, I miss you... :-)

Since I still have JC's beautiful Vintage dress, because I keep forgetting to give it to her (SORRY!) I thought i'd take it for a last spin today. I just love the tulle ruffle on the bottom. it's so good.
Paired with the 70s Old Man Sweater/Vest hybrid, it harkens Falling Leaves, Apple Cider, and Pumpkins, all that totally sweet Autumn stuff.

PS- I am all about DJ Assault today. On the headphones, obviously.

In The Age of Beauty

The other day i was talking to someone about doing some modeling work, and it sounded like they were thinking more of a "Special Promotion" type of thing, for which I instantly envisioned Bacardi Shot girls, or the Pistons Dance Team in Spangled Bootie Shorts and instantly thought... "I'm not down with that, leave that to the under-30 crowd." NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT, At All. I just feel that I am at a point in my life, Married, Two Little Angel Babies. That I just want to do and don't want to do certain things. And that doesn't mean I'm old, or not attractive, it just means that beauty has definitions that change and fluctuate and at every age we can be gorgeous and fabulous and do our thing... Here is the evidence...

The 30's! Seriously the best decade...

Here we have **Team RDG** (Left to Right: JC, Myself, J.Gar, and Jeneh) every one of us in our 30s and fabulous. Everywhere we go people are mystified. And NO, I'M NOT WEARING A TANK TOP EMBLAZONED WITH AN ALCOHOL BRAND, KISS MY 33 YEAR OLD DERRIERE.

Charlize Theron, 37, Gorgeous, working everything this way and that, does her damn thang and doesn't care what anyone thinks. *high fives*

Now, The 40's...

Sofia Vergara, 40, she seriously makes me want to slap myself. She is confident, proud, happy, full of life and beauty.

Famke Janssen, 46, unapologetic 6 footer = I got mad *respekt* for that (high fives). Always exuding this powerful, gorgeous aura of loveliness. Never meek. Never unsure. She commands, I love it.

The 50's... and OHH so fabulous

Julianne Moore, 51, classic beauty, great freaking actress. Brimming with confidence, love the alabaster skin and fiery hair, a combination that I've always loved and been jealous of in other people. It's just so exquisite.

Sharon Stone, 54, I fell in love with her in "Total Recall", fell madly head over heels again in "Casino" and then it's just continued until today. She has a "take me as i am" attitude, she knows she's beautiful and doesn't seem to mind looking more fabulous than women half her age at every event.

Sept 25 - Vanessa

Ever since I can remember I been poppin my collar... Except for today.

Ok, collar is popped now. Much better. Another gorgeous fall day. Thank goodness. I'm not excited for the days that we can't go outside due to the frigid Epic Coldness that *may* descend upon us. Last winter was pretty mild. I love the fact that i am so incredibly pale that my white 80s shoes match my legs. LOL. How ridic. hahah.
