Award Season Prophecies: The Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

Oops, getting this in just under the wire. This time it is the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.
The SAG awards is quite an interesting one as it is voted by those in the guild i.e. actors vote for them themselves. It is also entirely about the actors with no awards given for technical film-making skill.

Well, let's get on with it. As usual I don't pretend to actually know what I'm talking about. This is all in the name of a bit of fun.

I'll be using a key to indicate my choices:
  • Green for Most Likeliest Winner
  • Purple for My Personal Choice
  • Orange for Both
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
12 Years a Slave – Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Garret Dillahunt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong'o, Adepero Oduye, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Michael Kenneth Williams and Alfre Woodard

Bruce Dern – Nebraska

Not many awards this time around but it'll still be interesting to see who wins from the actors' points of views. Just a side thought, can nominees vote? And if so, can they vote for themselves? Answers on a postcard please...

See you on the other side!

Award Season Prophecies: SAG Awards 2013 Results

Good morning! It's been 2 days since the SAG Awards and now I can compare my predictions to the actual results!

Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Winner: Argo
Oops.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Prediction: Hugh Jackman - Les Misérables
Winner: Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
Oops.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Prediction: Jessica Chastain - Zero Dark Thirty
Winner: Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Oops.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Prediction: Philip Seymour Hoffman - The Master
Winner: Tommy Lee Jones - Lincoln
Oops.

Failing miserably here...

Outstanding Performace by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Prediction: Anne Hathaway - Les Misérables
Winner: Anne Hathaway - Les Misérables
Yes! (Finally)

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
Prediction: The Dark Knight Rises
Winner: Skyfall
Oops.

Well... apparently, what do I know about this award-giving malarkey?? Not a lot... 1/6 for the SAG Awards. At least, good ol' Anne is a shoe-in for everything.

So the next award show I will "predict" (this term now being used loosely) is the BAFTAs, which will be held on 10th Feb. See you next time for that!

Award Season Prophecies: Screen Actors Guild Awards 2013

Another weekend, another award show! This time, the Screen Actors Guild Awards. While the SAG awards are relatively new to the Award Season calendar (it's only the 19th year), it is, I think, important to the Award Season because the awards are voted for by members of the Guild itself. That's to say, the actors themselves are voting for which actor they think has done the best job.

Again, I haven't seen all the films up for awards, but I've seen the trailers and heard the buzz so I'm going for an educated guess. I'm not guessing the TV awards because I don't watch enough telly to really be able to make a decent guess. But just so you know, I want Glee to win Best TV ensemble in a Comedy Series ;).

Key:
Film I think will win
Film(s) I want to win
Both

Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture
Argo
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Les Misérables
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
John Hawkes - The Sessions
Denzel Washington - Flight
Hugh Jackman - Les Misérables

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Jessica Chastain - Zero Dark Thirty
Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Helen Mirren - Hitchcock
Naomi Watts - The Impossible
Marion Cotillard - Rust and Bone

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Alan Arkin, "Argo"
Robert De Niro, "Silver Linings Playbook"
Philip Seymour Hoffman, "The Master"
Tommy Lee Jones, "Lincoln"
Javier Bardem, "Skyfall"

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Sally Field - Lincoln
Anne Hathaway - Les Misérables
Helen Hunt - The Sessions
Nicole Kidman - The Paperboy
Maggie Smith - Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
The Dark Knight Rises
Skyfall
The Bourne Legacy
The Amazing Spider-Man
Les Misérables

So those are my predictions! Hopefully I've guessed better than I did for the Golden Globes...

So who do you think will win? Who do you want to win?
