Tips for Losing a Few Pounds this Summer by Jennifer Hawkins

When the weather is hot, it’s so much easier to diet. Maybe it’s because we can get outdoors more. Maybe it’s because fresh fruit and vegetables are in their abundance. Maybe it’s because holidays are looming and we are motivated into fitting into that small bikini. Maybe it’s all three reasons and more.

So you’ve got the motivation - but you don’t know where to start?

Diary
Keeping a diary is a great place to start. Write down everything you eat and drink during the day (and night!). Even the leftover food you ate off the kids’ plates and that one sweet you were offered and ate after lunch. Every mouthful must go into your diary so you can get a clear view of what you are eating daily. By keeping a diary you will see where your weaknesses are and what you must correct. You have to be honest with yourself or this just won’t work. Remember nobody else will get to see your diary unless you allow them to.
If you have a phone or a tablet then it’s a great idea to take a pic of everything you eat. This is a very successful way of keeping on track.

Portion Control
Everything is big nowadays. even the portions we eat are big. Here are a few suggestions to help you:
Eat off a smaller plate.
Never finish your meal - always leave a little food.
Fill your plate with salad or vegetables.
If you must snack, buy snack foods in single serving sizes or, better still, eat fruit
When in a restaurant ask for a small serving
Indulge occasionally so you are not tempted to binge.

Water
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you don’t like water try adding a lemon for a little taste.
Sometimes our hunger signal gets a little mixed up with our thirsty signal and we eat instead of drinking. You can be dehydrated and not even realise it - maybe you have a headache or are just feeling sluggish.
Your body is made up of 60% water. Water is required to help with circulation, digestion, body temperature and a whole lot more.
Staying hydrated helps our skin stay elastic so while your body is reducing so is your skin!
Choosing water over fizzy soda, cola, coffee or tea, you are not only doing your body a huge favour but doing it with zero calories.
Don’t lose patience with yourself.
You put weight on over months, maybe even years : it won’t fall off in a day. Be patient and you will be rewarded.
