Jan 31st - Vanessa

It's gotten cold again in the D. One thing that's hilarious about living here is that it can be 70 degrees one day and then minus 20 the next. I don't have any meteorology knowledge, but I'm sure if you are into that, this is a fun place to live and practice your art, due to the sheer randomness.
Since it's freezing outside, I am so happy I have my vast collection of thick 1960s polyester. There is nothing that will keep you warmer. Wearing this printed dress is like having 17 layers of goose-down on your body, impenetrable to the cold.
Jr is rocking his Mötorhead T, and looking like a tough Black Metal Dude. Which he is, since the time when he lived in my tummy, doing circle-pits in my abdomen.
These shoes, truth be told, I probably won't wear when I actually get outside, I love them, but it's freaking windy and icy *like a boss* out there. These are the shoes that I bought on the way to go shopping with Tom the first time, so I wouldn't show up to shop with him in my MOON BOOTS. I have a pretty sizable scar on my forefoot from wearing them for 6 hours of shopping without breaking them in... Sometimes, beauty = pain. oh well. :-)

My outfit:
Blazer - Forever 21
Dress - Vintage
Belt - H&M
Leggings - Thrifted
Shoes - Target
Specs - Lucky Brand

More Celeb Look-A-Likes!!

After I published the post earlier today, tons of people contacted me with their celebrity look-a-likes. I love my friends and they are all so beautiful, I had to share them with all of you. Some of these are uncanny. Hollywood here we come!! :-)

1. Ace = Sandra Bullock
*BOOM* The hair... the eyes that peer into your soul.... The jaw-line that says, "I'm serious, yet playful." This really is a good one. I've known Ace for decades, and haven't thought about Sandra Bullock for her. It's so right on, I love it.

2. Justin = Ryan Hurst (from Sons of Anarchy)

Justin, Tatey-Cakes' dad, is WAYYYYY tougher of a motorcycle gangster than the guys on Sons of Anarchy. Obviously. But this dude does totally look like him. Justin said that in the recent episodes Ryan (below) became a hair-farmer and now has a beard and pelo down to his moto-boots.

3. Tara = Erika Christensen

OMG, YES! and PS- where has this actress been? She was in "Swim-Fan" and that really awesome Cartel one "traffic"(?) But now she's just gone into thin air! Tara is so amazing. Beautiful soul, wonderful mother, friend of mine for 10 trillion years. Love her.

4. Rachel = Shelley Duval

Rachel is so awesome and cool. and "the shining" MAY be my favorite movie of all time. How awesome is this photo of Shelley Duval (below), I love the moment captured, it's amazing. It is an uncanny resemblance. Rachel once told me that her daughter likes Mastodons because she listened to so much *MASTODON* while pregnant with her (listen here). LMAO. I love it so much. Maybe that's why M likes *Minor Threat* so much. :-)

5. Chris = Neve Campbell

Oh MY MY MY! This is pretty damn doppelgangy. I mean, whoa! Chris, did you ever think about trying out for "Party of Five" back in the day? ahha. Chris is awesome, such a great unique energy, super cool chick. Neve wishes she was as cool as Chris. You can dream, Neve, you can dream.

6. Carrie = Suzanne Somers in Three's Company

This one i have thought about from time to time. Carrie is so bubbly and sweet and she really IS like Chrissy on Three's Company. We just need to get Carrie a terry-cloth romper, some pigtails and rollerskates- *BAM*. I'm sure her husband will not mind at all. hahhah. You will never meet a sweeter girl on earth than Carrie!!

Celeb Lookalikes either we Love or Hate

One thing that I think is super interesting is that when you tell someone that they look like a celebrity, they usually think that that celebrity is REPULSIVELY UGLY. I used to work with a girl that was the spitting image of Sarah Jessica Parker, and it was during the "Sex in the City" hey-day, so everywhere we went people would say "YOU LOOK LIKE CARRIE!!" and she just hated it so much. So I thought about some of the celebs that people have told me I look like, and some of my friends, and here's what they had to say.

1. Teena
Look at this striking beauty. I mean, she should be a celebrity herself. The alabaster skin, glowing brown eyes and silky hair, she is just gorgeous. People tell Teena she looks like Kate Beckinsale (below) and she likes that. I mean, Look at that photo of Kate! It could be Teena, it's crazy!

But people also tell Teena that she looks like Anne Hathaway.
To which Teena says, "She looks like a Farm Animal". LOL

2. Graci
This is my cousin, she's a MARVELOUS ACTOR, WRITER, SINGER, she has more talent in one of her baby-toes than most people have in their whole body.
Then comes along this Malin Ackerman chick...
Malin looks so much like Graci, that she should be Graci's stunt double. Or they should play twins in the newest "The Parent Trap" remake. One time Malin dyed her hair brown, and I was like, "come on lady, don't be that much of a copy-cat on my cuzzie." geeeez.

3. Bryan
Check out my Boy "Spike" aka Bryan, this Canadian-Italian Stallion gets told he looks like Ted Mosby from "How I Met Your Mother". I think that Ted Mosby WISHES he looked like Bryan so he could slay the laydeez with his intense vibes like Spikey-Pie does.

4. Martha

I think this Martha / Franka Potente one is ON POINT. Especially since I came up with it myself. haha. Martha used to live in NYC and everyone would come up to her every day and say, "OMG, RUN LOLA RUN!!" and "it must have been awesome to date Jason Bourne!"

5. Me

Oh goodness, I get told I look like EVERYONE. and 99.9% of the time when I meet someone for the first time, they say, "you look so familiar to me." I guess I just have one of those faces. And since I've had every hair color known to man, I've looked like every female on the Screen Actors Guild apparently. Since I'm blonde right now, I get told I look like every single brown eyed blonde in America and Beyond.
After seeing this photo above of me, someone told me I look like Poppy Montgomery. I WILL TAKE THAT, SHE IS GORGEOUS.

After I had Jr, and Beyonce had Blue-Ivy. We looked exactly alike. Another one I WILL TAKE AND RUN WITH. thank you very much.

Last week, I was with my coffee shop friend Jose, and he said I looked like Hilary Swank...
My hope of all hopes is that he meant Hilary Swank in "Karate Kid".

When Grey's Anatomy came out, EVERYONE TOLD ME I LOOKED LIKE Katherine Heigl...
Brown eyed blonde, but I think our face shape is totally different. and I am not a fan of hers. so that comparison I did not like.

Who do people tell you, you look like?

Street Style - Metro Detroit - TATEY CAKES

This is my favie favie SUPER STYLIN TATEY CAKES. omg, i love this girl. she is so super cool. She has the coolest dad of all time. and PLUS, my son is going to marry Tatey's little sister in about 30 years from now, so we will soon be family.
Not only is Tatey so amazing, but she has great taste in clothing. She wears Doc Marten's. She wears cheetah print at every opportunity (obvs). She has GREAT MUSICAL TASTE. and she also loves Harry Styles hair, which everyone should, it's freaking amazing.
I love this girl, she has the greatest most awesome energy and light about her, I just can't say enough good things. This is the amazing thing that happens when your GREAT AWESOME SUPER-RAD friend has a wonderful life and creates progeny, GREAT AWESOME SUPER-RAD kids. I just love this girl and family so much. I want to build a compound for both of our families to live in and listen to Rancid and the Ramones all day. Oh, and a little Black Flag too, of course.

Tatey's Outfit:
Vest - Old Navy
Boots - Thrifted at The Sal (heck yeah, what a find!)

Phew, Made It Through That!

Yesterday (Monday), I had my interview for a PGCE in Primary Education at the Univ. of Leeds.

And I think it went at least ok! So yay!

It was very nerve-wracking the night before and the morning of! I had so much nervous energy, I could hardly sit still for breakfast. I wanted to get going and make sure I was there with plenty of time to spare.

Thankfully, my stress was lessened a little because I went down on the Sunday night to my friend, Andy's flat, and he was a student at Leeds for a little while so knows the campus. So at least I didn't have to know where I was going.

I got into the waiting room and it was full... with, like, actual adults.

Ok, that sounds stupid because yeah, we were all there to get onto a postgraduate course but for some reason I had imagined the other interviewees to look, well, younger. This might be partly to do with the fact I don't feel or look 23, so I think other 23 year olds also look only about 20... Either way, it was slightly intimidating.

But I got talking to some of the other interviewees and, of course, they were all lovely and northern. After the obligatory introductions, including where we were from and what degree we had done, and where we did it, we went and did the maths and English tests.

Well. Thank god I had relearnt how to work fractions! I reckon at least half the questions were fraction based... Things like:
Express 17/25 as a percentage.
Or
What is 3/4 + 2/3 + 4/6? Express it in it's simplest form.
If you'd have asked me how to do that like two weeks ago,  I would have been very stuck.

I thought it went well, anyway. The English test was a test of our spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as whether we had legible handwriting and could write at a masters level. It was very short so hopefully that was ok too.

The second part of the interview day was something we could prepare for. We were to give a little lesson to the other interviewees in our group. It could be on anything at all. I chose the BSL manual alphabet. So, there was me thinking that surely the chance of someone else choosing that is low, but lo and behold, one of the four others in my group had also chosen the BSL alphabet. I was before her so it didn't affect my lesson, but it definitely stole her thunder a bit and she was struggling to fill the allotted time. I felt a bit bad. She must have felt horrible once she knew what I was planning to do! Thankfully the interviewers understood so, even though I am technically fighting her for a place, it shouldn't affect her overall performance. Anyway, I think my lesson went ok, though probably nerves showed through a bit. But what can you do...

Finally, it was the individual interview. Being interviewed is not my strong suit. I mostly come across as both too honest, and too blasé about whatever I'm being interviewed for. But I think I managed to avoid too many interview pitfalls, and didn't have any horrible moments where I couldn't think of an answer. And the interviewers were very friendly and made me feel pretty relaxed considering.

After that was finished, and some admin was completed, that was my interview day over! It could have gone a whole hell of a lot worse so I'm cautiously hopeful. If I don't get in... well, it'll be back to square one probably. But let's not think about that!

Plus, I would really like to go to Leeds. It's a really nice city (though the driving is confusing!) and the uni has a Harry Potter society!!! Done and done!

Jan 29th - Vanessa - I wear yo Grand-Dad's Clothes

I heard that "Thrift Shop" song this morning... Below...

OMG! If I saw that *Fur-Collar Tiger Stripe* Coat at a Thrift Store I would FREAK THE HELL OUT. That is so amazing. And the DeLorean... I've looked into getting one of those (click here for DeLorean's for sale) for the price... TOTALLY WORTH IT. But man-o-man, the gull-wing doors, and I don't know if that backseat is going to do carseats very well. I can just imagine trying to open those gull-wings for preschool drop off, "OMG! THE MINI-VAN NEXT TO ME PARKED TOO CLOSE! I CAN'T GET YOU OUT!" hahahh. I want one so bad.

Sadly, only my shoes are thrifted today. The *TOTALLY RAD* Trans-Am shirt is from the days when Stonewash and I would pay ridic money for vintage T's, aka "pre-children". It's hilarious because we also have a vintage Ferrari shirt that I did get Thrifting for $1. This Trans-Am shirt was like $80, LOL. oh well, live and learn. I think I'll go thrifting today. **I wear yo Grand-Dad's Clothes... I look IN-CRED-I-BLE...*

My outfit:
Vintage T - some overpriced online Vintage T store
Jacket - Target
Skirt - Express
Leggings - Reebok
Shoes - Thrifted
Spätz - The moons of Saturn

Brad Galli *Man of Style* 's Best Dressed at the SAG Awards

Brad Galli's day-job may be to serve as *Detroit Sports Virtuoso*, but mahhhnnnnn, this guy knows fashion and style. Last night when I was watching the Red Carpet coverage for the SAG Awards I thought, "WWBT?" (What Would Brad Think?) So I asked, and he answered with sartorial savvy...

Secret Agent of Fabulous Taste: Mr. Brad Galli. Channel 7 Detroit Sports Guru.

1. Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Haute Couture.
Brad loves the confidence of Ms. Lawrence and that she's a "what you see is what you get" type of celebrity. I agree whole-heartedly! He loves the "classy but young" dress, and the fresh flowing hair. The only thing that Mr. Galli took issue with in this look is the red lipstick (which I've always thought guys didn't really like...).

2. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen.
Jessica is obviously so beautiful, Brad agrees, Loves the fact that she hit this one out of the park after her MAY-JOR GAFF at the Golden Globes (look at this below!!! WTH!?).

3. Sarah Hyland in Dolce & Gabbana.
Mr. Galli loves that Sarah kept her look young, fresh, simple and classy. He feels like she looks so lovely and graceful in this strapless neckline (I concur). I also love the print and color on her. It's gorgeous.

4. Julie Bowen in Johanna Johnson.
(FULL LEATHER!! WHOA!) Brad loves that Julie is a risk-taker on the Red Carpet. I mean, a lot of actresses can't pull off a full-leather-dress (well, other than Angelina Jolie), but she is doing it justice. Even though it's an edgy material, she still looks formal and lovely. "She could wear a bag and look great", says Brad.

Dance Peace Love Rhinestone Tee Shirt

This shirt says it all. You can dance, have peace and love all at the same time in this personalized rhinestone tee shirts. So spread the love this year and grab one for your favorite pal!

**SAG Awards** 2013 Best of the Red Carpet

Ooooooh weeee... I love Red Carpet Season. And I especially love an actress that takes a risk at an awards show and wears something that makes you want to SLAP YOURSELF.
Here at the SAG Awards Red Carpet we had a lot of the nude/blush gowns, the boring columns that look like bridesmaid dresses, but we also had some STAND-OUT GLAMONISTAS/OS that just **KILLED IT** tonight. Witness.

 Jaimie Alexander in Marc Bouwer.
I love this because it's an original, individual look. I've never seen this type of bodice shape before. From the waist up, I'm in love. And the whole side of the dress being cut out like that somehow comes off not as garish, but as modern and kind of space alien-y. Which is lovely.

 Eddie Redmayne in Hugo Boss.
**Oh LAWD JESUS THERE'S A FAARRRRRRR** and it's him, in this suit. oh god. I love it so much. The rich, chocolatey goodness of this look is melting in my heart, not in my hand. He is just slaying it this awards season, I mean, he was one of my best dressed for the People's Choice Awards too (click here to see) in this rumpled to perfection "i'm so fashion i hate fashion" suit. I love him. I think maybe he reminds me of a young Stonewash. He has swagger, he wears clothing so well. His presence commands, he looks comfortable, cool, composed, and catastrophically-handsome.

Kerry Washington in Rodarte.
I thought this was Balmain. The studs and detail on the top are FABULOUS. Kerry is so incredibly beautiful, she just has a perfect face, I just want to take it in my hands and say, "YOU ARE JUST A PIECE OF ART." Bravo. The top of this gown looks like some sort of Warrior-Battle-Armor. In the War of Glamour, only the Brave Survive.

Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab.
The color is great on her, I love the semi-clash with the color of the Red Carpet. Gorgeous. The tiny sheer panel is lovely, and it's an unique shape. The T-Shirt styling at the top with a skinny belt (which you know I have mad love for). She just looks like a beautiful long stemmed rose.

RDG Field Trip: Fabulous Ferndale

Three houses ago, we lived in SoRo (South Royal Oak). They were the Halcyon Days before the children came along. You know, weekend mornings filled with waiting 3 hours to get into Toast, after we woke up at noon from being out at the Magic Stick til 2am, with the usual post-show pancakes at National til 4am. Cigarettes and Vodka, Garage Rock and Grimy Streets. Laying on our backs on the basketball court in the sunrise hours watching the day awaken, while women of the night walked by on the sidewalk. Calling the cops on teenagers that would be skateboarding down the I-696 off-ramp, only for the kids safety.
Yesterday I had 2 jobs to do... One casting in Ferndale, then a meeting/photo drop-off in the D, these activities were a couple hours apart, so I thought *oh lawd jesus* YES I'm going to Ferndale to hang out for awhile. When we lived in Royal Oak, we really didn't hang out in R.O. proper. 99% of the time we were in Ferndale. The ambiance matched us much better. Love Howe's Bayou. Love Mother Fletcher's. Love Danny's Irish Pub. Love the WAB on Monday's for 1/2 off food. LOVE Boogie Fever with it's **LIGHT UP** Dance Floor. Such a great town.

I just strolled around 9 mile for awhile. There are SO MANY new restaurants/businesses. That's great, I want to see this city prosper. I remember going to this record store YEARS ago to see *All* play a show, and Bill Stevenson (who i idolized) was talking to me, and then put his foot up on the record rack and Farted SOO LOUD. in front of everyone, it was so awesome.

Mother Fletcher's
210 W 9 Mile Rd  Ferndale, MI 48220(248) 398-4816
You freaking rock my socks off. I'd say a third of my vintage collection is from here. Greatest doors.

This jacket. I think Late 60s/ Early 70s? It has these awesome giant buttons, and these totally rad decorative metal belt loops, but sadly not the belt. if the belt was there, I would have gotten this. What a great color.
This thing was enormous on me, i'm holding it in the back. but that Piping and the front zip-up (which you know I covet) is so amazing. Also, when I'm looking for these dresses, I usually want a print.

Love love love, fit like a glove. Love the peter-pan collar. are you serious? and the sweet psychedelic print. so good. the length is great too. But I just don't wear any high necked dresses, so I don't want it to rot in my closet.
Another fabulous super thick poly 70s dress. this was a bit long. but it fit so well. and check out that piecing of the fabric across the bust!! It makes your Ta's look perky LIKE A BOWWSSSSS. hahha.
But another high neck, with a mock neck? nah, i don't think I can do that.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????????? Polaroid LAND CAMERA!!?? As opposed to a MARINE Camera? omgomg. I wanted this so bad, but I'm starting to amass these objets du vintage, and esp since I'm finding random weird things in the walls of my house every day, there's probably one of these cameras behind my bathroom wall, *as-we-speak*
